![]() Woodcarver's tools allow you to craft intricate objects from wood, such as wooden tokens or arrows.Ĭomponents. Things like a scrollworker, a fletcher’s kit, wandmaker, gunsmith, enchanter’s kit, and more! It will be exciting to create a few more things that others haven’t realized they want until they read it… but in the mean time, let’s check out page 85 of Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. Wow, I have two more tools after this one and then after that, I am going to be making my own tools that I feel are missing from the 5e system. Instead, there just isn’t enough foundation made for wooden weapons and armor, and so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to build a tool like that… instead, we went for a system that allows you to build whatever you’d like similar to our Painter’s Supplies or our Weaver’s Tools.įor those that don’t care about the how of my tool:įor best results in GM Binder, use a Chrome Browser ![]() Well, way back a year ago when I did the Smith’s Tools, I assumed that the Woodcarver’s Tools would actually work the same way and I realized trying to put it together it just doesn’t. Sometimes you have an idea set in stone wood, that you think something will work a certian way when you finally get to it. There comes a time every two weeks where I come up with an idea for a set of tools and share it with all you folks. The only kit that sounds even remotely like the artistic version of stonework is the Jeweler's tools, but again, that's a very specific discipline that's not related to carving works of art out of marble.Other tools: Potter’s Tools, Climber’s Kit, Thieves’ Tools, Weaver’s Tools, Painter’s Supplies, Calligrapher’s Tools, Jeweler’s Tools, Carpenter’s Tools, Forgery Kit, Disguise Kit, Herbalism Kit, Glassblower’s Tools, Navigator’s Tools, Leatherworker’s Tools, Cobbler’s Tools, Poisoner’s Kit, Cartographer’s Tools, Alchemist’s Supplies, Mason’s Tools, Gaming Sets, Tinker’s Tools, Healer’s Kit, Brewer’s Supplies, Smith’s Tools & Cook’s Utensils. Surely it wouldn't be woodcarving tools, which are explicitly for use with wood. "Mason's tools" seem like the wrong choice for the same reason you wouldn't use carpentry tools to whittle (chainsaw sculpture aside, where part of the art form is that you're using the wrong kind of tools), but I just don't see what else to apply. One of my players has decided to work on a stone carving (for reasons) and I'm suddenly finding myself stymied on what tool kit makes sense for that kind of work. Mason's tools are obviously the right tool for building brick or stone structures, but seem completely inadequate for doing sculpture work, and there's no "Stonecarver's tools" or "Sculptor's tools" listed. ![]() ![]() There's a clear distinction here between construction tools and artistic tools.īut there seems to be no such distinction for stone. Two of those kits are Carpenter's tools and Woodcarver's tools, and Xanathar's breaks them down the way you'd expect from the names: Carpenter's tools are useful for constructing wooden structures and furniture, while Woodcarver's tools are for detailed carving work like figurines (and arrows). In the Player's Handbook there's a list of about 20 "Artisan's Tools" that player characters might have proficiency with, and what those tool kits contain and can do is expanded on in Xanathar's Guide to Everything.
